One-Day conference In memoriam of Xavier Sanchez. “The Crisis of Globalization or the Globalization of Crisis?” The Current Situation and Transcultural and Interdisciplinary Alternatives
Globalization sparks endless debate and controversies which have been intensifying since the financial crisis, starting in 2007-2008. Advantageous and inescapable for some people, risky and problematic for others, globalization is at times perfectly virtuous and at other times deeply harmful. Nevertheless, financial globalization, encouraged by free trade, financial deregulation and corporate government, isn’t always positive for the development of intercultural dialogue or international scientific and cultural exchanges. These constitute another form of globalization, which is successful when it is subtracted from uniformisation and is not instrumentalized as a form of soft power.
Xavier Sanchez initiated the research on globalization at Evry University. Two days of talks, on the 21st of September and on the 16th of November 2017, pay tribute to him and form part of the continuing process of the research that was dear to him. They aim at constituting a state of affairs of recent research on the socio-economic, cultural and political principles of globalization, and at debating from a transversal perspective, beyond cultures and disciplines, so as to explore possible alternatives to financial globalization. Several issues will be discussed and refined by researchers from different disciplines, in order to better understand alternatives based on planetary cooperative initiatives.
